Prior to submitting proposals, we ask that you submit a three page Letter of Inquiry.  This step will allow The Foundation to preliminarily explore the merits of a grant relationship between your non-profit organization and this Foundation. Letters of Inquiry are to be received by The Foundation no later than midnight (CST) May 1 and November 1, without exception, for consideration in the biannual granting process.

The preferred method of submitting a Letter of Inquiry is through this Web site.  Mailed Letters of Inquiry must be approved by The Foundation.

Letter of Inquiry
Letter of Inquiry guidelines effective December 2006 are as follows (missing elements of the following and surpassing the three page limit will prohibit your Inquiry from grant consideration).

  • Name, address and phone number of the organization
  • Relevant contact person at institution
  • Brief history of organization and description of its mission
  • Description of project/problem, including major objective and expected outcome
  • Number of seniors to be served by the project
  • Especially important is to discuss the relevance of the project to the mission of The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation, with an explanation of the difference between this project and other projects which may address the same problem
  • Method(s) to be used to carry out project
  • Amount of funding requested from The Foundation and amount of financial support available from other sources
  • Tentative project schedule
  • Criteria used to evaluate outcome and means used to disseminate results
  • Plans to sustain project after requested funds expire
  • Qualifications of principal investigator and grantee organization

Résumés of key personnel are no longer required by The Foundation in Letters of Inquiry. Unrequested materials will not be forwarded to the Board of Directors.

Grants have been awarded at a level of $2,500 to $25,000.  Grant requests of more than $25,000 will be considered only in special circumstances.

You may upload one comprehensive Letter of Inquiry document through the link provided below.

Proposal Process
After each Letter of Inquiry is submitted, The Foundation will review each Letter and respond accordingly. You will receive a response, either by email or letter, indicating The Foundation's level of interest in receiving a full proposal. The decision to accept or reject a Letter of Inquiry is final.  If a proposal is sought by The Foundation, you will be contacted by email with proposal process requirements.

The Review Process
All proposals will be reviewed by The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation’s Board of Directors and a funding determination will be made.

All proposals must be received by The Foundation on July 15 and January 15, without exception. The Board maintains the following schedule for review and determination.

Letter of Inquiry Deadline:                   May 1                   November 1

Submit Complete Proposal Deadline:      July 15               January 15

Preliminary Review Decision:                October 1           April 1

Final Review:                                    January 1           July 1

Notice of Action:                               February 1         August 1

Consideration may be given to Letters of Inquiry or proposals that require a shorter review and approval process.

If the Board needs more information on an application prior to making its funding decision, The Foundation staff will contact the applicant to develop the additional information or arrange a meeting if needed.

Each proposal will receive a written response in relation to the action of the Board no later than one month after the Final Review has been conducted.  The decision to accept or reject a proposal is final.

Grant Terms
Each approved grantee will receive a Letter of Agreement, which the grantee must sign in order to activate the grant.  All grants are structured to ensure that the project will be completed.  This letter will outline the reporting requirements, which will include, but may not be limited to periodic progress reports and annual reports.
